BLUE STAR JAPANESE ASTER
Kalimeris incisa 'Blue Star' is commonly known as Blue Star Japanese Aster. It is an exceptionally reliable and long-blooming perennial that provides continuous color from early summer well into fall. It is highly valued for its robust nature and tidy, compact growth habit, forming a neat clump of fine, deeply-cut green foliage that reaches a modest height and spread of 15 to 18 inches. The plant becomes completely covered in a profusion of delicate, daisy-like flowers, about 1 inch across, which feature numerous pale blue (or lavender-blue) rays encircling a bright yellow central disk. Its profuse and enduring bloom period makes it an outstanding choice for the front of sunny borders, cottage gardens, or as a dense, low-maintenance groundcover.
Blue Star Japanese Aster is an excellent garden performer known for its rugged tolerance to challenging conditions. It thrives in full sun but will tolerate light afternoon shade, and while it prefers average, medium-moisture, well-drained soil, it is remarkably tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought once established. A truly low-maintenance perennial, 'Blue Star' is generally pest-free and rarely requires staking. Deadheading spent blooms will encourage a tidier look and often promote an even stronger rebloom late in the season, ensuring this charming Japanese Aster remains a star attraction in the garden for months.
