PURRING TIGER SIBERIAN IRIS
'Purring Tiger' Siberian Iris (Iris sibirica 'Purring Tiger') is a captivating and distinct Siberian Iris, valued for its striking bi-color pattern and compact, garden-friendly habit. This midseason bloomer, which reaches a modest height of 18 to 24 inches, features flowers with a dramatic "tiger-striped" appearance that is unique among Siberian Irises. The falls (lower petals) are a warm, subdued golden yellow, intricately detailed with prominent deep purple veining, while the standards (upright petals) and style arms are a contrasting dusty lavender or smoky purple. This vivid combination creates a fascinating visual texture in the late spring to early summer garden.
'Purring Tiger' is an exceptionally easy and robust Iris, perfect for smaller gardens, containers, or the front of a border. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and is remarkably tolerant of both average and consistently moist to wet soil conditions, making it an excellent addition to rain gardens or pond-side plantings. Like other Siberian Irises, it is deer and rabbit resistant and requires minimal maintenance beyond cutting back the foliage in late fall. Plant the rhizomes 1 to 2 inches deep in moist, fertile, slightly acidic soil, and expect the dense, upright clumps of fine, grassy foliage to provide structure and movement throughout the entire growing season.
