MARIPOSA AUTUMN BEARDED IRIS
Iris germanica 'MariposaAutumn' ('Mariposa Autumn' Bearded Iris) is a stunning and vigorous Tall Bearded Iris known for its dramatically colored blooms and highly desirable reblooming ability. It exhibits a plicata pattern, which means the color is stitched or edged onto a lighter background. The flowers feature rich, rosy-violet standards (the upright petals) and sparkling white falls (the drooping petals) that are boldly outlined in the same deep rosy-violet. The overall effect is a striking contrast, often complimented by a white or white-tipped beard. Growing to an impressive height of around 24-36 inches, 'Mariposa Autumn' is a reliable rebloomer that provides a first, massive display in mid-spring and a second flush of blossoms in late summer or fall, significantly extending the season of color in the garden.
'Mariposa Autumn' requires full sun (at least six hours per day) and fertile, well-drained soil, as poor drainage is the primary cause of rhizome rot. To maximize the second bloom, 'Mariposa Autumn' benefits from an extra application of low-nitrogen fertilizer (like 5-10-10) immediately after the spring flowers fade, coupled with consistent watering throughout the summer.
