FAIRYTRAIL FRESCO® CASCASE HYDRANGEA

Hydrangea Fairytrail Fresco® is a breakthrough entry in the cascading hybrid series bred by Ushio Sakazaki. Sharing the same revolutionary arching, weeping habit as Fairytrail Bride®, Fairytrail Fresco® reaches 3 to 4 feet in height with a cascading spread of 3 to 4 feet. Unlike the pure white blooms of Fairytrail Bride®, Fairytrail Fresco® produces vibrant, lacecap-like inflorescences that emerge in rich shades of bright magenta-pink or sky-blue. It features lateral bud flowering, setting dense floral clusters at nearly every single node along the full length of its gracefully draped, trailing stems.

Hydrangea Fairytrail Fresco® combines the trailing genetics of wild Asian species with the pH-dependent color flexibility of Hydrangea macrophylla. In acidic soils containing available aluminum, its flowers shift toward bright sky-blue, whereas neutral to alkaline soils yield rich, clear pink tones. It thrives in morning sun with dappled afternoon shade in rich, well-draining soil.

Planting Tips ⓘ

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in dappled sun, in well-draining, rich soil protected from the hot afternoon sun. Because it flowers on both old wood (from lateral buds) and new growth, pruning needs are minimal: lightly shape the plant or trim back weak shoots immediately after the main early summer flush, taking care not to perform severe late-season cutbacks that would sacrifice the next spring's lateral bud display.
