WHITE PILLAR® ROSE OF SHARON
Hibiscus syriacus White Pillar® ('Gandini Van Aart') is a Proven Winners® selection and a distinctive columnar Rose of Sharon prized for its narrow, fastigiate habit and refined summer floral display. Maturing to a height of 8 to 10 feet with a footprint of just 5 to 6 feet wide, it creates a tight vertical accent ideal for narrow side yards, entryways, or formal screening hedges where lateral space is limited. From midsummer into early autumn, upright branches are densely clothed in semi-double to double pure white blossoms, often featuring a subtle, soft red eye at the center. Unlike traditional wide-spreading cultivars, White Pillar® with its strict fastigiate architecture keeps itself neat without sprawling, making it a valuable structural element in tight landscapes.
Caring for White Pillar® requires minimal maintenance once established, provided it receives full sun (at least 6 hours of direct light daily) to maximize flower production and maintain a dense canopy. It adapts to a wide variety of soil types, including clay, loam, and alkaline pH levels, as long as drainage is good, though it benefits from consistent moisture during its first growing season. Hardy in USDA Zones 5 through 9, it blooms on new wood, so any structural shaping or size control should be done in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
