CHICAGO HARDY FIG
Ficus 'Chicago Hardy' is commonly referred to as Bensonhurst Purple Fig or Chicago Hardy Fig tree. This exceptionally cold hardy fruit tree produces small, brown to purple colored figs. Inside the fruit looks like strawberry jam. It is very easy to grow and very productive.
Chicago Hardy Fig Tree is self-pollinating so it does not need to be planted near another variety of fig to produce fruit. It thrives in full sun in nutrient-rich, evenly moist, well-draining soils. It is drought tolerant once it is established and quite heat tolerant. It is ideal for a patio containers so its easy spotting when the fruit is ripe!
