FIRST EDITIONS® COOL SPLASH® HONEYSUCKLE

Diervilla sessilifolia 'LPDC Podaras' PP19391 First Editions® Cool Splash® is commonly referred to as Cool Splash® Dwarf Bush Honeysuckle. This striking Diervilla is noteworthy for being the first variegated Diervilla with dark green leaves that have sharply contrasting creamy yellowish white margins. Foliage stays bright and clean right up until the first frost. In fall it turns an attractive reddish-purple. Trumpet-like yellow flowers adorn the plant in June and July - similar to the typical honeysuckle flower. This First Editions® selection is easy to grow and forms underground suckers, developing colonies as it matures.

Cool Splash® Diervilla enjoys full to part sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in average to well-draining soil, noting that these shrubs are remarkably adaptable to a variety of conditions, ranging from full sun to partial shade. While they demonstrate excellent drought tolerance once established, provide consistent moisture during the first growing season to encourage a deep, robust root system. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood or to manage size, as these plants respond well to rejuvenation pruning to maintain a dense, attractive habit. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to suppress weeds and stabilize soil moisture, keeping the material away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
