KODIAK® JET BLACK BUSH HONEYSUCKLE

Kodiak&3174 Jet Black Diervilla is a tough, easy-growing deciduous shrub with an amazing color profile! It boasts handsome dark burgundy-black foliage from spring to autumn, turning vivid red in fall. Bright and abundant yellow flowers throughout summer add a nice colorful contrast to its dark foliage.

Kodiak® Jet Black Diervilla thrives in full to part sun in average, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is one of the best shade-tolerant shrubs on the market. Deer resistant and drought tolerant, and ideal for erosion control plantings as well as borders and other mass plantings. This is a very useful and attractive landscape plant for sun or shade.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in average to well-draining soil, noting that these shrubs are remarkably adaptable to a variety of conditions, ranging from full sun to partial shade. While they demonstrate excellent drought tolerance once established, provide consistent moisture during the first growing season to encourage a deep, robust root system. Prune in late winter or early spring to remove dead wood or to manage size, as these plants respond well to rejuvenation pruning to maintain a dense, attractive habit. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to suppress weeds and stabilize soil moisture, keeping the material away from the crown to prevent stem rot.
