FIRST EDITIONS® DARK MODE™ HONEYSUCKLE

First Editions® Dark Mode™ Diervilla is a beautiful deciduous shrub that commands attention with its striking, near-black foliage and dark, burgundy-tinted stems. This compact, low-mounding shrub brings intense drama and rich contrast to garden borders, contrasting brilliantly against bright gold or variegated companion plants. Throughout summer, it erupts into a showy display of small yellow trumpet-shaped flowers that pop dramatically against the moody dark leaves while serving as an exceptional magnet for bees and butterflies.

For ideal performance, plant Dark Mode™ in a spot that receives full sun to partial shade; while it tolerates shadier conditions remarkably well, achieving the most intense, darkest leaf coloration requires at least several hours of direct sunlight daily. It thrives in average, well-draining soils and boasts fantastic drought tolerance once its root system is established, making it a stellar low-maintenance choice for slopes, mass plantings, or difficult urban soil conditions.

Planting Tips ⓘ

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in average to well-draining soil, noting that these shrubs are remarkably adaptable to a variety of conditions, ranging from full sun to partial shade. Care is minimal, requiring only an occasional light pruning in early spring to shape the plant and encourage fresh, vibrant new foliage growth for the season ahead.
