Zone: 3DELGENIUS™ CHANTAY LARKSPUR
Delphinium Delgenius™ 'Chantay' is a refined, early-season delphinium known for its tall, elegant spires of soft to medium blue flowers with a classic, lightly contrasting central 'bee.' The blooms are densely packed along strong, upright stems that rise above a mound of deeply lobed green foliage, creating the dramatic vertical accent that delphiniums are prized for. Compared to older, more brittle varieties, 'Chantay' is typically selected for improved stem strength and a more uniform flowering habit, making it especially effective in formal borders or cutting gardens where consistent bloom quality is important.
To help 'Chantay' settle in and thrive, provide rich, well-drained soil with consistent moisture, as delphiniums perform best when their roots are kept cool and evenly watered but never waterlogged. Full sun is ideal in most climates, though a bit of afternoon shade can be beneficial in hotter regions to prolong bloom quality. Staking is often recommended to support the tall flower spikes, particularly in windy or exposed sites. After the first flush of bloom, cutting back spent flower stalks can encourage a lighter rebloom later in the season. 'Chantay' works best in the mid to back of sunny perennial borders, where its vertical form can be supported visually by lower, mounding companion plants.
