HUMMINGBIRD SUMMERSWEET
Clethra alnifolia 'Hummingbird' is commonly referred to as Hummingbird Summersweet or Sweet Pepperbush. It is a dwarf, spreading, deciduous shrub featuring serrated, glossy green foliage and fragrant white flower panicles in mid to late summer that attract beneficial pollinators. Flowers fade to brown spikey fruits in fall and persist into winter, providing winter interest. Hummingbird is more compact and has better flowering than the species.
Hummingbird Summersweet is a favorite for its ability to tolerate and even flower in part shade. It grows best in sun to part shade in acidic, moist soils. Do not let the soil dry out. Ideal for woodland areas and along streams and ponds. Perfect for naturalization projects.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote new growth.
