MARGARET HUNT PINK CLEMATIS

Clematis 'Margaret Hunt' is a charming and reliable late-flowering clematis, prized for its profusion of delicate, dusky pink flowers. Unlike some of the more dramatic clematis cultivars, 'Margaret Hunt' offers a classic and elegant look. Its large, starry flowers are a lovely mauve-pink or lavender-pink, with a darker margin and veins that give the petals a gentle glow. The prominent red or maroon stamens create a beautiful contrast at the center of each bloom.

'Margaret Hunt' is a generous bloomer, providing a mass of mauve-pink flowers from mid-summer into early autumn. This extended flowering period ensures continuous color and interest in your garden when many other plants are fading. It is a Group 3 clematis, making it one of the easiest to prune. This means you can cut it back hard in late winter or early spring without worrying about removing next year's blooms. It thrives with its foliage in full or part sun and its roots in the shade. This is a basic rule for most clematis. It enjoys evenly moist, well-drained soil. It dislikes being waterlogged.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: This variety of Clematis falls in Group 2. Plant with the crown (base of the stem) 2-3 inches deep in well-draining, nutrient-rich soil. Mulch well to keep the roots cool. Pruning: Prune lightly in early spring, just as the buds begin to swell. Remove only the weak, dead, or damaged stems, and trim back the remaining vines to the top set of healthy buds. Avoid cutting these to the ground, or you will lose the early season flowers.
