Chelone lyonii 'Hot Lips' PPAF is commonly referred to as Hot Lips Turtlehead. It is a herbaceous perennial cultivar of Chelone lyonii, a species that is native to the southeastern US. It features darker foliage, deeper pink snapdragon-like flowers and redder stems than the species. It grows 2 feet tall in bloom with a spread of 18-24 inches. Flowers appear in late summer and butterflies love them.
Hot Lips Turtlehead is a woodland plant that enjoys shay locations and wet soils. It provides great late summer interest to the shady garden.
