DRACULA COCKSCOMB
Celosia 'Dracula' is a striking, high-drama novelty annual that brings a dark, gothic flair and an unforgettable architectural texture to the garden. A truly unique cockscomb (Celosia cristata), this variety is famous for its moody, color-shifting foliage and unusual flower form. Under high light, the broad, showy leaves take on a rich, dark purple-burgundy to near-black tone. It is topped by a single, massive, velvety flower head that twists and folds into a dense, brain-like crest. The flower opens in a deep, smoky purple and intensifies to a rich, velvety crimson-red as it matures. Growing on stocky, exceptionally thick stems, this compact centerpiece reaches a tidy height of 8 to 16 inches and spreads 8 to 12 inches wide.
To achieve the darkest possible foliage and the largest, most intense flower crests, Celosia 'Dracula' requires a location in full sun. Its compact, weather-resistant habit and dramatic appearance make it a premier choice for high-impact mass plantings, front-of-the-border edgings, or as a conversation-starting "thriller" in autumn patio containers and window boxes. The unique, long-lasting crest holds its form beautifully, making it an excellent option for distinct fresh or dried floral arrangements.
