Zone: 5EVERCOLOR® EVERSHEEN JAPANESE SEDGE GRASS
Carex oshimensis 'Eversheen', a standout member of the Evercolor® series, is a superb ornamental sedge prized for its luminous, arching foliage. Unlike many true grasses, this sedge maintains a compact, mounded habit, typically reaching 9 to 12 inches in height and width. Its most striking feature is its vibrant coloration - each blade boasts a broad, lime-yellow to bright gold center framed by thin, dark green margins. This "ever-gold" effect provides a consistent pop of color in the landscape, as the plant is evergreen in many climates, keeping its brilliant hue even through the darker winter months.
Caring for 'Eversheen' is remarkably easy, making it an ideal choice for low-maintenance borders or decorative containers. It thrives in partial to full shade, where its golden blades can brighten up dim corners without the risk of sun scorch. While it is adaptable to various conditions, it performs best in moist, well-drained soil and should not be allowed to dry out completely. Because it is a sedge and not a grass, you should avoid cutting it back to the ground in the spring; instead, simply "comb" through the foliage with your fingers or a small rake to remove any dead or tattered blades. If the plant looks a bit weary after a harsh winter, a very light trim of the tips is all that is needed to encourage fresh, vibrant growth.
