Zone: PRETORIA ORANGE CANNA LILY
Canna Pretoria Orange (also widely known as 'Bengal Tiger') is a spectacular, high-drama tropical perennial that brings an unforgettable explosion of color and architectural structure to the landscape. This premium variety is instantly recognizable for its breathtaking, variegated foliage: large, paddle-shaped leaves feature a striking pattern of creamy-yellow and lime-green stripes that follow the natural veining of the leaf, all cleanly outlined by a delicate, translucent maroon margin. As if the dramatic foliage weren't enough, Bengal Tiger is topped throughout the heat of summer by terminal spikes of massive, iris-like flowers in a brilliant, glowing shade of tangerine-orange. Rising majestically from thick underground rhizomes, this fast-growing giant forms a bold, upright clump that stands 4 to 6 feet tall and spreads 2 to 3 feet wide.
To fuel its rapid growth and achieve the most intense variegation and heavy flower production, this tropical centerpiece requires a location in full sun. It is a premier choice for adding dramatic height to the back of perennial borders, creating a dense and colorful summer privacy screen, or acting as a high-impact, architectural "thriller" in large patio containers. Because of its tropical origins, it thrives in wet conditions and makes a magnificent addition to the margins of garden ponds or water features.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: It performs best in rich, organic, and moisture-retentive soils, keeping a high tolerance for heavy clay. Unlike many other landscape plants, cannas prefer a constant supply of moisture and should be watered deeply and regularly during the hot summer months. To sustain its massive growth and continuous blooming cycle, apply a heavy application of balanced fertilizer monthly. In colder zones, the rhizomes should be dug up after the first frost and stored in a cool, frost-free location for the winter.
