VENUS SWEETSHRUB

Calycanthus x 'Venus' PP15925 is commonly referred to as Venus Carolina allspice or Venus Sweetshrub. It is a dense, rounded, multi-stemmed, non-fruiting hybrid which features fragrant, magnolia-like flowers that have a lovely aroma of strawberries and melons. Glossy green leaves turn a golden yellow in fall. Leaves, stems and seedpods are aromatic when crushed.

Venus Sweetshrub is a complex hybrid between Carolina allspice, California Sweetshrub and Chinese wax shrub. It is deer resistant and thrives in full to part sun in humus-rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in fertile, well-draining soil rich in organic matter, selecting a location with full sun to partial shade for the best performance. While these shrubs are adaptable, consistent soil moisture is crucial during the first few growing seasons to ensure successful establishment. Prune immediately after flowering if shaping is necessary, as these varieties typically bloom on the previous year's wood. Apply a layer of organic mulch around the root zone to stabilize soil temperature and conserve moisture, ensuring the mulch remains a few inches away from the crown.
