NEWGEN® FREEDOM™ BOXWOOD

The NewGen Freedom® Boxwood represents a significant breakthrough in evergreen breeding, specifically engineered to tackle the industry's most pressing challenges. This vigorous selection is celebrated for its exceptional resistance to both Boxwood Blight and Boxwood Leafminer, offering a reliable, long-term solution for landscapes where older cultivars might struggle. With a growth rate of 3-6 inches per year, it quickly establishes a lush, rounded form that is slightly taller than it is wide. Its glossy, medium-green foliage remains vibrant year-round, maintaining a much tighter, more uniform structure than traditional favorites like 'Wintergreen' or 'Winter Gem'.

Perfectly suited for formal hedges, foundation plantings, or structural accents, NewGen Freedom® thrives in full sun to partial shade and is notably deer resistant. While it naturally maintains a tidy habit, an annual light pruning in late spring helps refine its shape and encourages even denser growth. It prefers average, well-drained soil and, once established, provides a sophisticated, low-maintenance backbone for the garden. This "next-generation" shrub combines the classic elegance of traditional boxwood with a modern, rugged durability that ensures it remains a staple in the landscape for years to come.

Planting Tips ⓘ

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil, selecting a location that offers full sun to partial shade. Buxus varieties are known for their shallow root systems, so consistent watering is vital to keep the soil evenly moist, especially during the first growing season. Prune as needed in late spring or early summer to maintain your desired form, avoiding late-season pruning which can stimulate new growth susceptible to winter damage.
