ROSE GLOW JAPANESE BARBERRY

Berberis thunbergii 'Rose Glow' is commonly referred to as the Rose Glow Japanese Barberry. It is an award winning barberry with eye-catching foliage of new rose-pink growth with mottled pin and white splotches. Really unique! Small yellow flowers are followed by small, bright red fruit in fall that persist into winter. Birds love them and it adds a nice winter interest. Graceful branching (some with thorns) makes this a great choice for a hedge, barrier, or single accent plant.

Rose Glow Barberry thrives in full sun for best color. It enjoys average, well-drained soils. It will not tolerant wet or soggy soils. It is drought tolerant once established. Ideal for barrier or hedge plantings.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a pH ranging from slightly acidic to neutral. Select a location in full sun to partial shade, noting that maximum sunlight is required to achieve the most vibrant foliage color throughout the season. This species is highly adaptable and exhibits excellent drought tolerance once established, requiring supplemental water only during extended dry periods. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain size or remove old growth, keeping in mind that heavy gloves are recommended when handling this plant due to its sharp thorns.
