MISTRAL™ RED BOLIVIENSIS BEGONIA

Begonia boliviensis Mistral™ Red is a high-impact variety that brings intense, saturated color to the garden through its dramatic trailing stems. It is particularly valued for its vigorous growth and the sheer volume of its slender, pointed blooms. The bright red, bell-shaped flowers create a vivid contrast against the dark green, lance-shaped foliage, which features the distinctive serrated margins common to the boliviensis species. Its pendulous habit makes it an exceptional choice for vertical interest, particularly in hanging baskets where it can cascade several feet by mid-summer.

In the landscape, Mistral™ Red is most successful when positioned in a spot that receives partial sun to filtered shade. While it can tolerate more sun than many other begonia types, providing protection from the most intense afternoon heat will keep the foliage crisp and the flower color deep. It requires a light, well-draining soil medium to thrive - as the stems can be brittle if the plant becomes too heavy from over-saturation. Its ability to withstand heat and humidity makes it a reliable performer for adding bold, architectural texture to shaded porch or patio areas.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water thoroughly after planting and keep the soil consistently moist during the first few weeks. Fertilize regularly with a balanced fertilizer. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. To maintain its floriferous display, water consistently whenever the top layer of soil feels dry and apply a balanced fertilizer every 14 days.
