JOHANNA EVERGREEN AZALEA

Azalea kaempferi 'Johanna' is commonly referred to as Johanna Azalea or Torch Azalea. It is a semi-evergreen ornamental shrub that features true red single flowers on a low mounded, compact plant. Its flowers attracts birds, bees, hummingbirds and other beneficial pollinators. Its glossy green foliage turns bronze purple in fall which adds to its winter interest.

Johanna Azalea thrives in part sun or even full shade! It enjoys rich, acidic, evenly moist, well-drained soil. It has great seasonal interest all year long!

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in acidic (pH 4.5-6.0), well-draining soil rich in organic matter. If the soil is heavy clay, incorporate peat moss or aged pine bark. Plant shallow - the top of the root ball should sit 1 to 2 inches above the surrounding soil level; never bury the crown Keep soil consistently moist but never waterlogged. Apply 2 to 3 inches of pine needles or bark, keeping it away from the main stem. Always ensure deep watering in late autumn before the first hard freeze to prevent winter desiccation.
