CHOCOLATE SHOGUN FALSE SPIREA
Astilbe x arendsii Chocolate Shogun is commonly referred to as Chocolate Shogun Astilbe or Chocolate Shogun False Spirea. This herbaceous perennial is quite adaptable with its tolerance for more sun and somewhat drier soils than other Astilbe cultivars. It features glossy chocolate-bronze foliage and light pink flower plumes held on dark stems in early summer. Flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators to the garden.
Chocolate Shogun Chinese Astilbe is deer and rabbit resistant and thrives in dappled shade in humus rich, evenly moist soils.

To help Astilbe arendsii types settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, rich soil with a slightly acidic pH. Keep the soil consistently moist. Astilbe arendsii varieties do not tolerate drying out and thrive best when protected from hot, afternoon sun in dappled shade. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
