PURPLE LANCE FALSE SPIREA

Astilbe chinensis var. taquetii 'Purpurlanze is commonly referred to as Purple Lance Chinese Astilbe or Purple Lance False Spirea. This herbaceous perennial produces long-lasting purple plume flowers on 36" stems in late spring and early summer. As the season progresses, the flowers fade to lavender.

Purple Lance Chinese Astilbe is deer and rabbit resistant and thrives in dappled shade in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. Excellent in the shade garden and as cut flowers.

Companion plants for Astilbe include: Rhododendron, Hosta, Ferns, Heuchera, Ligularia and Japanese and Siberian Iris.

Planting Tips

To help Astilbe chinensis types settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, rich soil with a slightly acidic pH. While it prefers dappled shade, Astilbe chinensis is more heat and sun tolerant than other varieties and will perform well in brighter spots if moisture is consistently maintained. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
