PURPLE CANDLES® FALSE SPIREA
Astilbe chinensis ('Purpurkerze') Purple Candles® is commonly referred to as Purple Candles® False Spirea. It is a late blooming Astilbe (August) that is more tolerant to sun and drought than other cultivars. It features taller panicles of reddish-purple plume flowers above bright green foliage.
Purple Candles® Chinese Astilbe thrives in partial shade or dappled sun in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It will not tolerate dry soils.
Companion plants for Astilbe include: Rhododendron, Hosta, Ferns, Heuchera, Ligularia and Japanese and Siberian Iris.

To help Astilbe chinensis types settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, rich soil with a slightly acidic pH. While it prefers dappled shade, Astilbe chinensis is more heat and sun tolerant than other varieties and will perform well in brighter spots if moisture is consistently maintained. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
