TUBEROSA MILKWEED

Asclepias tuberosa is commonly referred to as Butterfly Weed, Milkweed, Pleurisy Root, Swallow Root, Indian Potato and Indian Paintbrush. This native herbaceous perennial is easy to grow and hassle-free. It features bright orange to yellow-orange flower clusters from June through September. Flowers attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators. Flowers also provide valuable nectar for many bees and butterflies and are a valuable food source for the Monarch Butterfly larvae. Dark green, lance-shaped leaves provide a showy contrast to its floral display.

Butterfly Weed thrives in full sun in average, moist, well-drained soils. It is ideal for beds, borders and other sunny, naturalized areas.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant it in well-draining soil with full sun. Water it regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer during the growing season.
