Zone: 3SWAMP MILKWEED
Asclepias incarnata, commonly known as Swamp Milkweed, is a highly beneficial native perennial celebrated for its mid-to-late summer clusters of pleasantly fragrant, vanilla-scented pink flowers. Growing 4 to 5 feet tall in attractive, non-aggressive clumps, it serves as a pollinator magnet, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds with its nectar. Most notably, it acts as a host plant for monarch butterfly caterpillars. Songbirds also make use of its dead stems for nest building.
Swamp Milkweed is deer and rabbit resistant, making it a reliable option for gardens with wildlife. It thrives in full sun and organically rich soil. Although it can excel in wet, poorly drained soil, swamp milkweed possesses moderate drought tolerance once it is established.
