Aronia melanocarpa 'UCONNAM166' PP28789 CBRAF Proven Winners® Color Choice® Low Scape Hedger® Chokeberry is more commonly known as Low Scape Hedger®. It is a narrow, columnar shrub that is perfect as a problem-solving hedge. This hardy, tough cultivar features clusters of attractive white spring flowers and glossy green foliage that matures to tones of yellow, orange and red in fall.
The Low Scape Hedger is easy to grow and is tolerant of most conditions. It enjoys full to part sun in evenly moist, well-drained soils. It is part of the of the Low Scape® series of Proven Winners®.
The fruits of Aronia melanocarpa varieties (Aronia berries) have been found to be very beneficial to human health, including anti-diabetic, anti-infective, anti-obesity, and antioxidant activities, as well as for your heart and liver function.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, well-draining soil, although this species is remarkably adaptable and tolerates wet sites or compacted soil better than most shrubs. Select a location with full sun to partial shade, noting that maximum sun exposure is required for the most prolific fruit production and intense autumn leaf color. Establishment is straightforward, but consistent watering during the first season ensures the root system develops properly. Because Aronia has a natural suckering habit, prune in late winter or early spring to manage size or remove old canes if a more formal appearance is desired.
