SUN VALLEY RED MAPLE

The Sun Valley Red Maple is a US National Arboretum introduction. It is a male (no fruit) deciduous tree that is noteworthy for its symmetrical ovate crown and outstanding red fall color. It is a cross between Red Sunset and Autumn Flame maples and is more compact than other Red Maples. It has medium green leaves in summer that turn to brilliant red in late fall. It grows more slowly, has a narrower spread and can be planted in tight spaces.

The Sun Valley Red Maple is cold hardy and enjoys full sun to part shade and average, evenly moist, acidic, well-drained soils. It can tolerate periodic flooding and even some drought.

Planting Tips

Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with a balanced fertilizer.
