ALPENGLOW KOREAN MAPLE

Acer pse. 'Alpenglow' (Acer x pseudosieboldianum 'Alpenglow') is an attractive hybrid maple species marketed under the name of Alpenglow® 'INAG-E61'. It is a cross between Acer palmatum (Japanese Maple) and Acer pseudosieboldianum (Korean Maple) which combines the desirable foliage of Japanese Maples with the increased cold hardiness of Korean Maples. It was bred specifically to expand the cold tolerance range of Japanese maples to include Zone 4.

In Spring, leaves emerge a vibrant and showy ruby or merlot red. Translucent veins help the leaves 'glow' when the light hits them. In summer the deep red mellows to a burnished bronze and autumn brings a blazing color show filled orange and red hues.

Alpenglow® thrives in partial sun to light shade, especially in hotter climates. It can tolerate some full sun, but intense afternoon sun may scorch its leaves. It enjoys organically rich, evenly, well-drained soils.
