SHISHIO HIME JAPANESE MAPLE
Acer palmatum 'Shishio Hime' is commonly referred to as Shishio Hime Japanese Maple. It is a small, slow-growing Japanese Maple that grows more wide than tall with a mature height of only 2-3 feet and a spread of 3-4 feet. Yellowish-green leaves emerge in spring with bright red tips before turning all green for the summer. Leaves become smaller each year as the plant matures providing a unique look, especially for bonsai. Older specimens have some of the smallest leaves in any maple species. Fall color ranges from red and yellow to orange.
Shishio Hime Japanese Maple is hardy but slow-growing. It thrives in partial sun in organically rich, evenly moist, well-draining soils. Shelter provided from strong winds is most beneficial. Excellent for container or bonsai plantings.
