MIKAZUKI CRESCENT MOON JAPANESE MAPLE

Acer palmatum 'Mikazuki', also known as the Crescent Moon Japanese Maple, is a beautiful deciduous tree celebrated for its dramatic 'reticulated' variegation - meaning its leaf veins are a sharply contrasting color from the rest of the leaf. In spring, the narrowly lobed, undulated leaves emerge in a striking shade of bright pink with deep purple or green veining. As summer progresses, the foliage transitions to a soft creamy-white or pale green, while the prominent dark green veins remain distinct.

Mikazuki Japanese Maple thrives in dappled shade or a location with morning sun and afternoon protection, as intense direct sunlight can scorch its delicate variegated leaves. It enjoys rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and requires consistent moisture. Do not allow it to dry out completely, especially during the heat of the summer. This medium-sized cultivar typically reached a mature height of 15 feet with a spread of 8 feet, making it a perfect artistic focal point or specimen for small gardens and courtyards.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with an acidic fertilizer. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
