KOMACHI HIME JAPANESE MAPLE
Acer palmatum 'Komachi Hime', whose name translates to 'Beautiful Little Girl', is a charming dwarf Japanese Maple known for its dense, shrub-like habit and exceptionally tiny foliage. This slow-growing cultivar typically reaches only 2-3 feet in height with a spread around 6 feet, creating a compact, mounded silhouette that is wider than it is tall. In spring, the five-lobed leaves emerge bright yellow-green with distinct reddish-pink margins, providing a delicate, multicolored effect. As summer arrives, the foliage matures to a deep, glossy emerald green before transforming into a vibrant palette of brilliant orange and scarlet in the fall.
Komachi Hime Japanese Maple thrives in dappled shade or a spot with morning sun and afternoon protection. While it is more heat-tolerant than some other dwarf Japanese Maples, its tiny leaves can still scorch in intense mid-day sun. It enjoys rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soil and consistent moisture to thrive, making it an excellent candidate for bonsai culture.
