NORDMANN FIR
Abies nordmanniana is commonly referred to as Caucasian Fir or Nordmann Fir. It is a dense, pyramidal conifer with branches that reach to the ground. Its branches have dense, flattened, glossy dark green needles with two white stomatal bands underneath. Foliage is not sharp and does not drop readily if the tree gets dry. Its bark is gray-brown and smooth. Its seed cones are dark red-brown and like other firs, appear upright on its branches.
Nordmann Fir is an important species grown for Christmas trees. It thrives in rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils in full sun. It dislikes clay soils. It is a handsome conifer that is easy to grow with great disease resistance.
