PROVEN ACCENTS® VARIEGATED MYRTLE

Vinca major 'Variegata', commonly known as Variegated Periwinkle, is a robust and fast-spreading evergreen subshrub often utilized for its striking foliage and trailing habit. It features large, ovate leaves of a deep forest green, edged with a creamy white or pale yellow border that brightens up shaded areas of the garden. Throughout spring, it produces attractive five-petaled flowers in a classic periwinkle blue, which stand out beautifully against the bi-color leaves. Its long, arching stems root at the nodes where they touch the ground, making it an excellent choice for stabilizing slopes or filling in large areas quickly.

Vinca major 'Variegata' is incredibly versatile and can thrive in a variety of light conditions, ranging from full sun to deep shade, though it maintains its best variegation in partial shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but is notably adaptable to various soil types once it has become established.

The ideal spot for Variegated Periwinkle is as a groundcover under a high tree canopy or as a trailing element in large containers and window boxes where its stems can gracefully spill over the edges. Because of its vigorous growth habit, it is best placed in areas where it has plenty of room to roam or where its borders can be easily maintained to prevent it from outcompeting smaller, less aggressive garden companions.
