Zone: 5LITTLE ANGEL BURNET
Sanguisorba officinalis 'Little Angel' is a charming and unique dwarf perennial that brings both texture and color to the garden through its striking variegated foliage. It forms a compact, mounded tuft of small, rounded leaves that are deep green with crisp, creamy-white serrated margins. Reaching a mature height of only 15 - 18 inches with a similar spread, it is an excellent choice for the front of a perennial border, rock gardens, or as a sophisticated "filler" in mixed patio containers. In mid to late summer, button-like maroon-purple flower spikes emerge on slender stems above the foliage, adding a whimsical touch and attracting various pollinators.
To ensure 'Little Angel' maintains its vibrant variegation and tidy habit, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun to partial shade. It thrives in average to moist, well-drained soil and, unlike many drought-tolerant perennials, it prefers consistent moisture to prevent the leaf edges from browning during the heat of summer. Maintenance is minimal; simply remove spent flower stems to keep the plant looking tidy and cut back the foliage to the ground in late autumn or early spring to make way for fresh, brightly colored new growth.
