Zone: 3SENSATION® SKY BLUE MEADOW SAGE
Salvia nemorosa Sensation® Sky Blue is a standout perennial in the Sensation® series, prized for its extremely compact, mounded habit and soft, sky-blue flower spikes. Reaching a mature height of only 9 to 12 inches, this dwarf cultivar is an ideal choice for the front of a border, rock gardens, or as a uniform filler in decorative patio containers. The light blue blooms provide a cool, refreshing color palette that contrasts beautifully against its dense, green foliage. Despite its smaller stature, it is a prolific bloomer from late spring through early summer and serves as a reliable magnet for bees, butterflies, and other essential pollinators.
To ensure Sensation® Sky Blue thrives and maintains its tidy form, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. It is notably heat-tolerant and stands up well to summer humidity, though providing consistent moisture during its first growing season is key to establishing a strong root system. To encourage a second flush of light blue spikes in late summer, it is highly recommended to shear the spent flower stems back to the basal foliage after the initial bloom begins to fade. In early spring, simply remove any old stems to make way for fresh, new growth. Like other meadow sages, it is naturally resistant to deer and rabbits, making it a dependable, low-maintenance landscape performer.
