Salvia nemorosa 'Crystal Blue' is part of the Proven Winners® Color Spires® collection and a standout that brings a rare, refreshing aesthetic to the garden with its unique cool-blue flower spikes. Unlike the deep purples and violets typical of many Salvia varieties, 'Crystal Blue' offers a soft, sky-blue hue that creates a tranquil contrast against its dense, rugose green foliage. Growing in tidy, mounded clumps that reach approximately 18 to 24 inches in height, 'Crystal Blue' is particularly valued for its prolific early-to-midsummer bloom cycle. Its upright habit and vibrant color make it an excellent choice for mid-border plantings, mass groupings, or as a focal point in pollinator gardens where it reliably attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
To maintain the health and vigor of Salvia 'Crystal Blue', it should be planted in a location that receives full sun and has well-drained soil. While it is notably drought-tolerant once established, providing regular moisture during the first growing season is essential for developing a deep root system. To encourage a second flush of those distinct light blue blooms later in the season, it is highly recommended to shear the spent flower spikes back to the basal foliage after the initial flowering period. In early spring, simply remove any dead stems to make way for new growth. It is also deer and rabbit resistant, making it a dependable, low-maintenance addition to various landscape styles.
