Zone: 4BLUE HILL PERENNIAL SAGE
Salvia nemorosa 'Blue Hill' (also known as 'Blauhugel' or 'Blue Meadow' Hill Sage) is a longtime garden favorite, widely respected for having some of the truest blue flowers among all meadow sages. 'Blue Hill' Sage produces numerous upright spikes of clear, sky-blue flowers that create a cool, refreshing effect in the landscape during early to mid-summer. Its aromatic, medium-green foliage forms a dense mound that stays tidy throughout the growing season. As a reliable and floriferous selection, it is a consistent draw for pollinators, acting as a preferred landing pad for bees and butterflies seeking a mid-season nectar source.
Blue Hill Sage thrives in full sun with well-draining soil. Because it maintains a very manageable and compact height of 18 to 24 inches, it is perfectly suited for the front of a perennial border, as a structured edging along a walkway, or integrated into a rock garden. To encourage a second flush of those distinct blue flowers in late summer, it is beneficial to shear the plant back once the initial blooms have faded. It is exceptionally hardy, drought-tolerant once established, and naturally resistant to deer, making it a dependable choice for a low-maintenance garden.
