CANDY STRIPE CREEPING PHLOX
Phlox subulata 'Candy Stripe' is one of the most recognizable and beloved cultivars of creeping phlox, instantly identified by its distinctive bicolor blooms. Each flower features showy white petals with a bold, bubblegum-pink stripe running down the center of each lobe, creating a whimsical "pinwheel" or "candy cane" effect. It is celebrated for its dense, needle-like evergreen foliage that forms a thick, mossy carpet, making it a premier choice for suppressing weeds, stabilizing sunny slopes, or cascading over the edges of stone retaining walls.
To ensure 'Candy Stripe' reaches its full potential, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, as this is essential for the most prolific spring flowering and to keep the foliage tight and mounded. It thrives in lean, gritty, and exceptionally well-drained soil; like most creeping phlox, it actually prefers average soil over rich, organic ground, which can lead to leggy growth.
