HAMELN DWARF FOUNTAIN GRASS

Pennisetum alo. 'Hameln' (Dwarf Fountain Grass) is a top choice for gardeners seeking an elegant yet low-maintenance ornamental grass. This short, compact perennial forms a graceful, fountain-like mound of arching, narrow, green foliage that provides beautiful texture all season long.

In late summer, it produces a showy display of fuzzy, silvery-white to beige flower plumes, which rise above the foliage and shimmer in the sunlight. Fall brings lovely golden-yellow, and the plumes persist, offering excellent winter interest. Easy to care for and thrives in full sun. It prefers fairly dry soils and is drought tolerance once it is established. Deer resistant.

Planting Tips

To help Pennisetum settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in full sun in average, well-draining soil. This variety is a hardy, reliable perennial that will return year after year in our region. It is prized for its graceful, arching foliage and soft, bottlebrush-like plumes that provide significant textural interest from summer into autumn. It performs best with consistent moisture and excellent drainage. Cut the foliage back to the ground in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth for the new season.
