EDENS PERFUME PEONY

Paeonia 'Eden's Perfume' is widely considered one of the most fragrant herbaceous peonies ever hybridized, living up to its name with a scent that is often compared to a blend of classic rose and damask. This mid-season bloomer produces massive, triple-layered "bomb-type" flowers in a soft, ethereal shade of shell pink that lightens to a delicate blush as the petals mature. The blooms are exceptionally dense and ruffled, reaching up to 6 or 7 inches in diameter, and are held atop a lush mound of deep green, divided foliage. Reaching a height of approximately 30 to 34 inches, it is a premier choice for "cutting gardens" where its perfume can be brought indoors to fill an entire room.

To ensure 'Eden's Perfume' reaches its full aromatic potential, it should be planted in a location that receives full sun, as at least six to eight hours of direct light are required for the plant to produce its heavy, multi-petaled flowers. It thrives in deep, fertile, well-drained soil; like most peonies, it is a "heavy feeder" that benefits from a top-dressing of compost or a balanced fertilizer in early spring as the red shoots first emerge. When planting, it is critical to position the "eyes" or buds no deeper than 1 to 2 inches below the soil surface to guarantee future flowering.
