LEMON DROP® EVENING PRIMROSE

Oenothera Lemon Drop® is a cheerful, award-winning perennial cherished for its prolific display of vibrant, lemon-yellow flowers that bloom continuously from late spring through the heat of autumn. Unlike many other members of the evening primrose family, Lemon Drop® is day-blooming, meaning its fragrant, four-petaled blossoms remain open and bright during daylight hours. It forms a tidy, mounded clump of fine-textured, dark green foliage that provides a sophisticated backdrop for the sunny flowers. Reaching a compact height of about 9 to 12 inches, it is an excellent choice for adding a steady "drop" of color to the front of flower beds, containers, or rock gardens. For best results, plant Lemon Drop® in a location that receives full sun, as it requires at least six to eight hours of direct light to maintain its mounded shape and maximize flower production. It is a remarkably tough plant that thrives in average to lean, well-drained soil; in fact, soil that is too rich or fertile can cause the stems to become "leggy" or floppy. Because it is highly drought-tolerant and heat-resistant once established, it is ideal for trouble spots like sunny slopes or gravelly banks where other plants might struggle. Maintenance is minimal, as the plant is self-cleaning and does not require deadheading, though a light shearing in mid-summer can help refresh the foliage and encourage even more blooms heading into the fall.
