Zone: 4WALKERS LOW CATMINT
Nepeta faassenii 'Walker's Low' is perhaps the most iconic and widely planted of all Catmints, beloved for its billowing, romantic habit and exceptional reliability. Despite its name, it is not particularly "low," typically reaching a height of 12 to 15 inches with a 18-24-inch spread, creating a soft, fountain-like mound of aromatic, grayish-green foliage. From late spring through autumn, it is smothered in loose spikes of lavender-blue flowers that provide a soft, hazy effect in the landscape. It was famously named the 2007 Perennial Plant of the Year because of its sheer stamina, staying power, and ability to act as a magnet for bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while remaining completely ignored by deer and rabbits.
The ideal spot for 'Walker's Low' is in full sun with sharply drained soil, as it is native to regions with rocky, lean earth and will suffer in heavy, waterlogged clay. It is incredibly tough and drought-tolerant once established, making it a perfect "low-maintenance" choice for slopes, sunny borders, or as a classic companion for roses. Because it is a sterile hybrid, you won't have to worry about it seeding around your garden, allowing it to remain a tidy, dependable anchor in your landscape for years.
