Zone: 5LILY LOOKS™ SUNNY™ GRENADA ORIENTAL LILY
The Lilium orientalis 'Sunny Grenada' is part of the Sunny™ series which boasts vibrant, contrasting colors and compact size, making it ideal for container gardening and small garden spaces. This dwarf selection typically reaches a height of only 15 to 18 inches and blooms in mid to late summer. Its large, upward-facing flowers feature a striking combination of dark burgundy-red to crimson petals that are heavily spotted and sharply bordered with a bright, ruffled white edge. Like other Oriental lilies, it offers a strong, sweet, and spicy fragrance and is a fantastic choice for cutting.
For successful growth (Hardy in Zones 5-9), plant 'Sunny Grenada' in well-drained, rich soil in a location that receives full to partial sun. While the top of the plant loves the sun, it's best to keep the roots cool by applying mulch around the base or interplanting with low-growing perennials. Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the blooming period, and fertilize lightly in the spring as the shoots emerge. After the flowering season is complete, remove only the spent flower heads (deadhead), but allow the stem and foliage to remain until they yellow and die back naturally in the fall to ensure the bulb stores enough energy for the next year's colorful display.
