Zone: 4STARGAZER ORIENTAL LILY
The Lilium orientalis 'Mona Lisa' is a fragrant, dwarf Oriental lily celebrated for its beautiful, outward-facing flowers that bloom in mid to late summer. Its petals are a soft pink that fades to white at the edges, accented by deep rose centers and a speckling of darker red spots, making it an excellent, slightly "softer" alternative to the more intense 'Stargazer'. Unlike many tall lilies, 'Mona Lisa' reaches a compact height of only 30 to 36 inches, which makes it a perfect, non-staking choice for foreground borders, mass plantings, or containers where its lovely, sweet perfume can be easily enjoyed.
To grow 'Mona Lisa' successfully (hardy in Zones 3-9), plant in a location with full sun to partial sun and, most importantly, well-drained soil. It thrives on consistent moisture during the growing season, so mulch is recommended to keep the roots cool and prevent the soil from drying out. After the beautiful flowers fade, be sure to deadhead to prevent seed production, but leave the foliage intact until it naturally yellows and dies back in the fall; this process of photosynthesis is crucial for the bulb to store energy for next year's magnificent display.
