PURITY CANDYTUFT

Iberis sempervirens 'Purity' is a classic and reliable cultivar of Evergreen Candytuft, highly valued for its prolific spring bloom and handsome, low-growing habit. 'Purity' forms a dense, mounding mat of narrow, glossy, dark green foliage that remains evergreen throughout the year, typically reaching a height of 9-12 inches with a spread of 12-18 inches. In mid-to-late spring, the foliage is completely obscured by a cloud of pure white flowers, providing a showy early-season display. 'Purity' is an excellent choice for rock gardens, edging along paths and borders, or as a small-scale, cascading groundcover, and is noted for being deer and rabbit resistant, as well as attracting pollinators like butterflies.

For optimal growth, 'Purity' thrives in full sun but will tolerate partial shade, with flowering being most abundant in sunnier spots. Crucially, it requires excellent soil drainage to prevent root rot and is very adaptable to various soil types, including sandy or gravelly conditions. Once established, it is notably drought tolerant. To maintain its tidy, compact form and encourage a potential rebloom, shear the plant back lightly (by about one-third) immediately after the main spring flowering period is complete.
