Zone: 5PURPLE FOUNTAIN BEECH
Fagus sylvatica 'Purple Fountain' is also known as the Purple Fountain Beech. This slow-growing cultivar has a columnar and cascading habit with weeping branches that drape from an upright leader. It has alternate, simple leaves with wavy margins. Leaves emerge bright purple in late spring and fade with the intensity of the summer sun. Purple Fountain is a sport of the larger Weeping Beech (Pendula). It grows faster than Fagus syl. 'Purpurea Pendula' and has a lighter shade of purple to its leaves. It is an excellent specimen for urban gardens.
