Zone: 3VALENTINE BLEEDING HEART
Dicentra spectabilis Valentine® ('Hordival') PP22739 is commonly referred to as Valentine® Bleeding Heart. This classic old-fashioned bleeding heart features red blooms instead of pink. Chains of heart-shaped red puffy flowers with white inner tips dangle along frosted plum-colored, leafless stems from late spring through summer and attracts hummingbirds. Mounding foliage emerges with a tinge of purple and changes to deep green.
Valentine® Bleeding Heart thrives in partial shade in organically rich, neutral to slightly alkaline, moist, well-drained soils. Given adequate moisture, the foliage remains an attractive ground cover. It is ideal for shady areas and woodland gardens.
