Zone: 5LUCAS EUROPEAN HORNBEAM
Lucas Columnar European Hornbeam is a narrow, upright, columnar hornbeam, narrower than the Carpinus betulus 'Fastigiata'. Dark green foliage turns yellow-bronze in fall and lingers on the tree through most winters.
Hornbeams are natively an understory tree growing well in full or part shade in moist, organic, well-drained soils. They can thrive with as little as four hours of bright sun daily. Its adaptability to urban environments including clay and limestone, make this cultivar perfect for avenues or used as a hedge.

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize annually with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer. Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and promote healthy growth.
