SHI-RAN CHINESE GROUND ORCHID

Bletilla Striata 'Shi-Ran' is commonly referred to as Shi-Ran Chinese Ground Orchid, Shi-Ran Hyacinth Orchid or Shi-Ran Hardy Orchid. This easy-to-grow perennial produces small, fragrant, cattleya-like, deep purple orchid flowers in late spring to early summer. It is a terrestrial orchid with shiny, pale green, papery-textured, sword-shaped leaves. Seedheads follow blooms turning brown as they mature.

Shi-Ran Chinese Ground Orchid thrives in part shade in organically rich, evenly moist, well-drained soils. It prefers dappled afternoon shade and regular moisture throughout its growing season. It naturalizes over time by short rhizomes and is ideal in partially shady borders or rock gardens.

Planting Tips

To help this plant settle in and thrive, we recommend these standard planting practices: Plant in moist, well-draining soil with a slightly acidic pH. Water regularly, but avoid overwatering. Mulch around the base to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly in the spring with a balanced fertilizer.
